Climate change adaptation in practice – examples of science-stakeholder communication processes

Dr. Philipp Schmidt-Thomé Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Helsinki, Finland

The BaltCICA project contributed to concrete decision-making by conducting scenario workshops to develop land use visions on climate change adaptation. The interdisciplinary project used climate change scenarios to develop land use visions in cooperation with local stakeholders. The aim was to communicate and understand underlying vulnerabilities to climate change, taking into account land use and natural hazard impacts on the living environment. Several cities and municipalities in Finland, Norway, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have cooperated in these participatory processes and developed local climate (change) adaptation measures. The methodologies are currently further developed in a Finnish-Vietnamese project on climate change adaptation.
