Welcome to the Planning Network Middle East Website
The Planning Network links the Faculty of Spatial Planning (TU-Dortmund/Germany) and universities in Jordan, Palestine and Iraq by combining various joint activities under the title “Spatial Planning through Intercultural Dialogue”.
The main idea is to learn from each another, implying that all involved partners recognize the value of the others’ experience and knowledge, likewise, develop a culture of inter-exchange to discuss and transfer ideas and know-how.
The German partner can provide an important input concerning e.g. a democratic basic understanding and inter-disciplinary scientific knowledge in the field of spatial planning. The Middle East partners, on the other hand, can contribute with their experience gained from a long history and a certain culture of town planning that dates back to the time of the first settlements in Mesopotamia.
Since the cultural contexts of the European and the Middle East countries are very different, it is not only interesting to compare the cultural distinction and their different impacts on spatial planning but also to elaborate ways to benefit from one another.
To achieve a common understanding of integrated spatial planning and its importance and function within education systems for a democratic, peaceful and sustainable development, the project idea is based on:
Joint research activities carried out under the title “Sustainable Integrated Urban Renewal and Revitalisation: Stimulating the Potentials of Historic Centres within a Local Context” and Networking activities aiming at a modern curriculum and teaching methods which facilitate constant exchange, dialogue and joint activities in future.
