Excursion of SPRING-Batch 2010/11 to East-Germany

September 17th to 19th 2010 - This year in September the regional excursion took the new SPRING batch for three days to Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia to discover Germany in its multifaceted culture and history.

In Dessau-Rosslau the students could learn about the intensive work of IBA Urban Redevelopment Saxony-Anhalt 2010 on shrinking cities. With the exhibition shown in the Bauhaus building and the visit of the so called Meisterhäuser the students were able to experience famous examples of German architecture.
The second day started with the visit of the former concentration camp of Buchenwald which made the students aware of this conflictive history in comparison to Weimar as city of German classic. In the afternoon the participants discovered the city centre, visited Belvedere Palace and had a guided tour through Goethe's home. The evening in Jena was highlighted by the fireworks watched from the viewing platform of the Jentower.
The third day brought the interested and good-humoured group to the traces of medivial Jena, through Bach's home in Eisenach and let them climb up to Luther's Wartburg were the excursion ended with a great view.
