The Dortmund Conference for Spatial and Planning Research was held for the first time in 2012 by members of the Faculty, the ARL and the Alumni Association and takes place every two years.

The aim of the conference is to establish a forum in which the state of research on current topics of spatial planning can be presented and discussed. Spatial planning is understood by the Faculty of Spatial Planning as an interdisciplinary profession whose focus is on the targeted development of spaces in theory and practice. In the narrower sense, planning research refers to the theory of theories of planning and decision-making, and also to the knowledge about spatial change and its driving. Knowledge from planning research as well as other spatial sciences, which take technology, natural sciences and social sciences perspectives, should be brought to a fruitful exchange at the Dortmund confernce on the basis of selected interdisciplinary topics.
